Thanks, James. Dr. Rich is an astute chronicler of our recent demise, but I also think we are getting “blowback” for what earlier generations of physicians agreed to get take part of for their short term benefit.

Yes , the ACP has taken a “bold stand”. Dr. Fogoros’s third installment of the book he is writing in increments on his blog (The Covert Rationing BLog ) seems to really nail the events and driving forces of the gradual demolition of traditional medical ethics.

Don’t get me started on the IOM! These guys command tremendous influence in setting policy behind the scenes yet they are accountable to no one. They have an army of zealous public health graduates that produce an enormous number of “reports” that are so lengthy and nonsensical as to deter any effort at rebutting. Yet these provide the intellectual cover for the collectivists and central planners who by now have acquired a quasi total control on health care policy and regulation. The report you refer to, though, was clearly one of the most nefarious. It essentially launched the “war on error” whose intent is to rapidly reduce the number of community hospitals and allow for the emergence of a few tightly controlled ACOs.

It is amazing that statistical modelers have reached that degree of sophistication that they can determine how many people suffered from event X or disease Y without actually counting them.Plus it is easier that way.I am reminded for the notorious IOM study that “determined” some outrageous number of hospital deaths from medical error.The number they came up with was so high that I feared even going back to my hospital for fear of tripping over bodies in the halls.
